The inside is out of sight. Covered.
You just see the uppermost part. Where the object ends and meets the outside. Meets the eye.
The temperature. The grain. Rough or smooth. Definite or fuzzy.
The outside slowly wears the inside. And the difference between the two softens.
The surface only has one side. It has no depth. The other side is the inside.
